Check Macoupin Jail Releases

To find someone released from Macoupin County Jail, begin with the jail’s own movement record. A Macoupin County Jail release can mean departure to the community, but it can also mean transfer to another county, state prison, federal custody, or immigration custody. The current-inmate app is only a status signal. It is not a released-person archive. The release entry, court order, and receiving agency each answer a different part of the question. Reading them together shows when county custody ended, what authority caused the movement, and whether another custodian took control.

Macoupin Jail Release Destinations

The Macoupin County Jail is the county’s only verified operating detention facility. A person can leave after bond or a pretrial order, time served, dismissal, sentence completion, or another court-authorized event. The same jail record can also mark a transfer. That transfer may lead to another Illinois county, an IDOC prison, the federal system, or immigration custody. “Discharged from” the county jail therefore means county custody ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community.

The jail’s chronologically maintained record is the best local proof. The 2023 state inspection confirms that staff record the date, time, and authority for each discharge, transfer, or release. Ask that the authority identify the order, bond decision, satisfied sentence, or receiving agency when publicly disclosable. A court docket explains the legal event. The jail entry proves the physical movement.

Confirm Macoupin Jail Release

No official Macoupin web roster, 24-hour list, or 72-hour release archive was verified as of the research date. The county-branded sheriff app has an inmate-search feature, but no released-history window is established. A name disappearing from that app starts the inquiry. It does not finish it.

  1. Search the current sheriff app for the exact name and compare any available identifiers.
  2. Call the jail and ask whether the person is currently held.
  3. If not held, request the date, time, and authority release or transfer entry.
  4. Check the Circuit Clerk case for the signed release, bond, sentencing, or commitment order.
  5. Follow the receiving authority when the entry reports a transfer.

The full county search and records sequence appears on the Macoupin County released inmates home page. Illinois VINE may provide a custody change when a Macoupin source is available in the live portal, but county participation and released-result persistence should be confirmed on the current screen.

Status check: Transfer is not community release, and a missing current-custody result is not proof that all custody ended.

Macoupin Jail Release Records

Illinois FOIA Section 2.15 includes the date and time an incarcerated arrestee was received, discharged, or transferred in chronologically maintained arrest information. The inspection adds that Macoupin records positive identification, a release search, physical inspection, property inventory and return, signed documentation, and release authority. These facts permit a focused request even though no public feed exists.

Address the request to the Macoupin County Sheriff. Identify the person by full name, date of birth, approximate booking date, and booking number if known. Ask for the booking sheet, the discharge or transfer date and time, authority, release sheet or log entry, publicly disclosable receiving destination, and booking photograph when available. Electronic copies reduce handling. Ask for a fee estimate and a statutory explanation for withheld parts.

Macoupin Jail Record Fields

A release packet may contain more than the public movement entry, but not every field is guaranteed on one public sheet. Request only what serves the release question. That keeps the search precise and reduces the chance of delay caused by an overly broad demand.

Release authority
The bond, order, sentence satisfaction, transfer instruction, or other basis staff relied on.
Discharge time
The recorded date and time county custody physically ended.
Transfer destination
The receiving agency or place, when public and maintained.
Property receipt
The signed inventory and return trail associated with release.
Booking photo
The intake photograph when available and legally disclosable.

A docket date is not a substitute for the discharge time. Staff may need time to verify an order, complete identification, return property, and check for another hold. Likewise, the arrest date does not show when booking or release occurred.

Macoupin Jail Property Release

The official sheriff page says a detainee may arrange for a friend or family member to pick up personal property through a written request. The recipient may need photo identification. The state inspection requires signatures for third-party property release and treats the receipt as a jail record.

This paper trail can answer a property question and can identify who accepted an item. It does not establish the hour a person left the building. At final release, inspection standards require an inventory, return of property, and signed receipt. Ask for property documentation only when directly relevant and disclosable. Do not infer a daily release schedule or exit location from the property rules because neither was verified.

Macoupin Jail Capacity Snapshot

The present jail was built in 1989. Its rated capacity is 93, divided into 81 male and 12 female spaces. The November 21, 2023 inspection counted 52 people. These numbers describe the building and one inspection-day snapshot. They are not annual admissions, average occupancy, length of stay, or number of releases.

The inspection describes 19 single rooms, 26 double rooms, and ten- and twelve-person dormitories. Those physical facts help distinguish the current facility from the closed historic jail. They do not predict how long a particular release will take.

Cannonball Jail Release History

The Macoupin County Cannonball Jail was built during the 1867 courthouse project. Its embedded cannon-ball construction was intended to deter removal of stone blocks. The old jail served for 119 years and retired in 1988, just before the present facility opened.

It is not an active detention site and has no current inmate or release page. Any preserved records are historical or archival. Keeping that distinction clear prevents an old landmark from being mistaken for a second county custody location. Current Macoupin release requests belong with the sheriff and present jail.

Macoupin Jail Transfer Follow-Up

When the authority field names another custodian, follow that system rather than repeating the county app search. An IDOC commitment should eventually appear in the statewide offender search. Another county transfer requires the receiving jail. A federal court matter may remain with the U.S. Marshals Service before any BOP commitment. ICE’s locator reports present immigration detention, not a durable history.

No BOP prison, ICE detention center, or verified federal detention contract was identified in Macoupin County. That negative finding does not rule out a case-specific pickup. The named receiving authority controls. Confirm the person’s identity and movement date before joining records across agencies.
